Christine wants to give the latest items to her friends as presents, but her husband is worried about the expense and doesn't see the purpose behind it. He asks who is the bell-sheep, or the leader, who drives women to give expensive and useless presents to each other. Christine visits her grandmother, who reveals that all the fashionable, expensive items she had received now collect dust in the attic, and Christine decides that instead of her normal gifts, she will give the gift of goodwill to her friends and family.
