Afton Clegg Hicken was born July 31, 1917 in Mountain Home, Utah. She married Ward McMullin Hicken in October 1941 in Salt Lake City. Afton was active in the LDS church and served in many callings from Relief Society to Cub Scouts. She served as a Beehive House hostess for 19 years. She wrote over 200 poems, several of which were published and won awards. She played the piano and sang in trios, quartets and choruses. She was a kind and compassionate friend to all who knew her.
