Bertha A. Kleinman

Bertha Kleinman was raised in Salt Lake City and moved to Arizona in 1913. She was a lyricist and poet, and was best known for her work on the pageant "Message of the Ages," which was performed 30 consecutive nights in Salt Lake City to celebrate the centennial of the LDS church. Kleinman also wrote the words for eight hymns in the 1927 edition of the LDS hymnbook, and the theme song for the Future Farmers of America. In 1939 the Arizona Press Woman named her "Woman of the Year" and in 1958 the Arizona Writer's Club named her "Artist of the Year." She was the first person to be awarded the David O. McKay Humanities Award at Brigham Young University. She died in Mesa, Arizona at age 93.
