Caravene Crook Nelson was born February 14, 1913 in Los Angeles, California to Joseph H. Crook and Crara Vena Wilde Crook. She received her education at the Tonapah, Nevada, schools and graduated from Tonapah high school in 1930. She attended Brigham Young University for a short time. She was employed as a secretary in the industrial relations office of the Columbia Steel company.
Caravene married Sinclair Daniel Gillies in 1933, they were later divorced. She married Glen Clarence Humphrey May 12, 1939. They later divorced. She married LeGrande L. Nelson November 11, 1942. She died from pneumonia September 4, 1944.
