Evelyn H. Hughes

Evelyn H. Hughes was born in Blanding, Utah, March 23, 1921 to Alfred Leroy and Katie Brown Hawkins. She attended Dixie Jr. College and graduated from Brigham Young University. She married Owen Hughes in the St. George Temple, August 1, 1946. They had three children.

Evelyn retired from teaching school after 27-1/2 years. She was a prolific artist and writer. She received many awards for her paintings and poetry. She was selected as Utah Poet of the Year in 2002, for her book Furnace of Affliction. Evelyn has written many family histories. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions in the church.
