Giovanni Papini is best remembered as a biographer of Jesus, Dante, and Michaelangelo. A very unconventional Roman Catholic, he also wrote works of popular theology (The Devil, Epistles of Pope Celestinus VI) and of avant-guarde speculative fiction (Words and Blood, Gog, The Black Book). These three main threads of his writing came together in his magnum opus, Guidizio Universale. [from bio in LDSF 3]
