Hazel Loomis

Hazel Loomis was a Utah writer known especially for her poetry. She was born December 20, 1894 in Verdure, Utah. She was the fifth of eleven children born to Monticello pioneer settlers George Albert and Nancy Evelyn Mortensen Adams. On May 8, 1922, she married Joseph Rankin Baird. He died after only four years of marriage. She married Ray Loomis, they later divorced. Hazel attended the University of Utah, University of Mexico, University of Hawaii, and colleges in Colorado and California. She was a teacher of performing arts, music, and writing.
