Iris Welch Schow was born July 7, 1909, in Mantua, Utah, to Elmer Carlos Schow and Eleanor Welch Schow. She attended local public schools and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College. She taught school for 45 years, most of that time was at Central Elementary School in Brigham City.

Iris was president of the Utah Pen Women for a number of years, was the president of the Box Elder Chapter of the Utah Poetry Society, and was very active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was published extensively in church publications such as the Relief Society magazine, Improvement Era, and various other publications. She was a member of the LDS church and held various positions. She was devoted to genealogy , active in family organizations, and instrumental in compiling and editing the Jeppsen and Welch family history books. Iris will be remembered for her dedication to family, church, and community.
