Lael Woolsey Hill was born January 26, 1919 to Parley and Mary Elizabeth Hale Woolsey. She started writing and drawing from a young age. At 14 she sold her first poem and went on to have many more poems published and win prizes. She married Uel Udell Hill in the Salt Lake City LDS temple in 1939.

Lael was a housewife and free-lance poet, writer, and artist. Mrs. Hill published a book of poems, A Legacy of Years (1966). She published her poetry in LDS Church magazines, Utah Woman, American Scholar, Chelsea Nine, Ladies' Home Journal, Saturday Evening Post, The Humanist, Woman's Journal (England), St. Anthony Messenger, The Christian Science Monitor, New York Times, New York Herald Tribune, both major Salt Lake City papers, and in Utah Sings. She was an officer in a number of poetry associations.
