"I paint to say something. I paint because there is color. I paint because there is beauty and there is power in symbols. For example, one symbol is idea that plants grow from seed and then reproduce themselves under the right conditions of water and light. Picture I paint because there is power in creation—babies are born to Mothers and Fathers, the Sun comes up each day. I paint because I believe that God is telling us something with all of his creations and supreme order.Picture Therefore, in my paintings I often personify flowers or objects. A fruit or a plant seems to speak with words. Figures, representing the mortality in each of us, likewise speak ideas. Birds symbolize a whisper from God, carrying messages. Flowers speak of God’s great mercies, beauty beyond reason, power beyond our abilities, and often a deeper symbol than the surface. Life is alive. God speaks in symbols and in words. His words carry power. One can notice that the titles to the paintings have been painted right into the surface. I have also added God’s words from the scriptures. I paint as my humble and small attempt to show God’s hand."
