Marlene Bateman Sullivan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up in Sandy, Utah. She attended the University of Utah, Dixie College and Utah State University, majoring in English. She is a member of the Bountiful Utah Orchard Fifth Ward. In June of 1974, she married Kelly R. Sullivan. They are the parents of seven children. Her hobbies are gardening, flower arranging and reading. They live in North Salt Lake City, Utah. Marlene has been published extensively in various magazines and newspapers, as well as having an article published in the book, Random Sampler.
