Nancy Hanks Baird received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. She is married to John K. Baird, who is president of the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission. They are the parents of five children. A freelance writer and editor and the owner of a small business, she published a collection of poetry, The Shell in Silk, in 1996. Her poems and essays have appeared in the Southern Poetry Review, Comstock Review, BYU Studies, Dialogue, and other journals. She loves to run, grow flowers, teach poetry workshops, and try to speak Spanish. Learning Spanish is the most difficult thing she has had to do lately.
