Verda Mae Christensen

Verda Mae Fuller Christensen was born March 22, 1922 in Barnwell, Alberta, Canada to Freddric Clarence and Ruth Thomsen Fuller. In 1941, she graduated along with her two elder sisters with high honors from Brigham Young University majoring in dramatic art. She taught high school for two years in South Summit, and a year in Tooele, prior to spending six years as a writer, actress, and producer for KSL Radio and Television.

On September 1, 1949, she married Robert Magleby Christensen, who was a native of Richfield, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Except for a year in Vernal, they lived in Salt Lake City all of their married lives. They were the parents of eight children.

She was a popular speaker, writer, actress, and director. She spent eleven years as a member of the YWMIA General Board and received the Distinguished Service Award from BYU Alumnae Association in 1972 and a Masters Degree from the University of Utah in English with a creative writing emphasis. She taught Creative Writing and Debate at West High for two ½ years and at Highland High for six years. She contributed significantly to four published histories - of her own life, the YWMIA, Rose Park Stake, and the Salt Lake Temple. One of her BYU films, "Worth of a Child," received a first place national award from the Corporation of Public Broadcasters. In 1987, she was named Utah Mother of the Year.
