Ethel Barton says goodbye to her long-time friend, Willard Taylor, as he leaves for school. Both of them develop romantic feelings for the other, but when Professor Eugene Gordon moves into town, Ethel falls in love with him. She almost marries him, but he is not a member of the Church, and her father's reminder not to throw away her birthright as a daughter of Israel cause her to turn him down. Professor Gordon leaves, and Ethel is about to marry Willard Taylor when Professor Gordon comes back, having learned about the Church. Ethel then breaks up with Willard, but finds that Professor Gordon isn't serious about religion, and Ethel marries Willard Taylor after he returns from his mission.
