Tracy Sequaptewa, a Native American woman, bakes a cake for a parent activity at the school where she is the Indian Program director. As she gets ready for the event, she thinks about her past: being raised by white LDS families as part of the Church's Indian Placement Program, the resulting toxic perfectionism as she desperately tried to belong and to not cause trouble or pain for her host families, and her later struggle to find a job despite her academic success. The stress and hurt build up inside her, and she finally reaches a breaking point.
