Final Cut Films

Brigham Young University

In 1971, 6000 students attended the screening of the first student film produced at Brigham Young University, Ice Cream and Elevators. But it was not until 1992 that a formal film festival for student films was organized. Since that year, students have competed to have their films chosen for screening or for awards at the annual event put on by the Theatre and Media Arts Department. Immensely popular on campus, the festival now draws literally thousands of viewers during the better part of a week. Films are mostly short in length and range from dramatic narrative films to documentaries, advertisements, animated shorts, and experimental films. Many professional Mormon filmmakers have gotten their start working on films for Final Cut....—Gideon Burton
