Lyndon is a young teenager when he first hears Orlin Ashwurm testify about the signs of the times. He begins to be preoccupied with the Second Coming and worries he won't have a chance to live to adulthood. As the years pass he distances himself from those beliefs and from belief in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in general.
