For the fifteen years they’d been married, David went up every summer to their mine to take care of it. Now that he passed away, it was up to Marian and her six children to complete the work needed to retain possession of the land. Marian goes, despite her hesitation, and is able to overcome the challenges they encounter, as Jim directs them in the work. They repair the road and work hard on the mine, but in the end, it’s Marian’s work on the cabin that saves their land from falling into the hands of a greedy man. Marian and all of her children had fallen in love with the mountains, and Marian discovers her capabilities to be on her own.
