The author reflects on two experiences he had. The first was with a friend he calls “B,” a fellow salesman and a veteran of World War I whose wife died from the flu. The friend describes how when he was in the military his wife appeared to him after she died. B’s wife appeared to him again recently, and B died soon after from a fever. This experience taught the author about selflessness and care for those around him. He later had an experience where another friend of his argued that there is no death—those who have died live here still as spirits, and it may be possible to interact with them in the future. Right before the author went to sleep that night, he heard music from his radio on “KDS,” the “Kingdom of the Departed Spirits.”
