Salt Lake City, Utah: General Board of Relief Society, September 1967

  • Hazel M. Thomson: Author
Fiction, Short Story
Nora Blake, a schoolteacher in rural Idaho, becomes acquainted with Latter-day Saint people and culture as she lives with the Bishop's family. She works hard in the school and community, making a difference for many people living there. One of these is Jed Oliver, a man who Nora teaches to read and develops a connection with. She is devastated to learn he is leaving to serve a mission, but she finds plenty to keep her occupied between school and her newly acquired homestead. Because of the influence of her friends in the community, Nora decides to get baptized, a decision that opens the way for her and Jed to marry when he returns home.
