Elder Buck and Elder Dawson start teaching Thomas, a Navajo man who attended a government boarding school and later became a code talker during the war. Elder Buck is a textbook missionary who believes that if they just work hard enough, Thomas will give permission for his granddaughter to be baptized and go on placement. Elder Dawson is a convert who isn't so sure that placement is the right decision or that Thomas should give up his Navajo traditions. All three have experiences that cause them to question their points of view and consider that their way might not be the best way.
