Salt Lake City, Utah: Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mutual Improvement Association, October 1924
Fiction, Short Story
Edward Rotono, a peddler on the Mississippi River, hears about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo. He listens to Joseph Smith’s sermons, and although he doesn’t join the Church, he often visits and gets to know the leaders. After Joseph Smith’s death, he sees the struggle of the people and feels impressed to give his savings to Brigham Young. He dismisses the prompting, but later he nearly drowns and promises to give all his money to the Church if God will spare him. After he is miraculously saved, he gives all his money to Brigham Young and joins the Church.
