Annie Adams is heartbroken when her son is pronounced guilty of manslaughter during Thanksgiving. He is sentenced to five years in prison, and Annie is left on her own since her husband abandoned her over twenty years ago. She asks the doctor what more she could have done for her son, and he explains that parents are only the parents of their children's bodies, and that their souls have lived and will live before and after this earthly life. Parents can help teach and guide them, but children are ultimately responsible for their own actions. Additionally, hardships can be blessings in disguise, and time in prison might even help Annie's son to turn his life around.
