After Sandra's mother passes away, she fulfills the promise she made to her mom and tries out for the school play. The play gives Sandra confidence and courage, and it also leads to her meeting Brick. Brick and Sandra begin to date, but she fears it's over after she leaves a party early because people were drinking. However, after reading through her mother's old journal, Sandra is comforted and realizes that Brick is a good guy after all.
