John Maynard is worrying about a strike at his factory when a mud ball crashes through his window. The culprit is Washington Lincoln, a young boy whose sister immediately apologizes and tries to give the last of the family's savings to pay for the window despite the family's mother being in the hospital. Maynard instead gives the family money, but he hears Washington Lincoln talking about a bomb. Washington Lincoln reveals that he heard some men talking about blowing up the factory. Maynard asks God to forgive him for his greed, and he goes to the factory to accede to the striker's demands. He then decides to help the family's mother come home for Christmas.
