Ada is excited for the 24th of July celebration the following day, especially because her family has been in quarantine for the mumps the past six weeks. However, Ada soon realizes she is coming down with the mumps herself. She decides that she can hide her sickness for one more day so she can attend the celebration. Ada is determined to attend the celebration, but then she remembers her baptism vows. She realizes she can't lie to her mother or risk getting other sick. Ada admits that she is sick, but everything works out okay because her sick friends are able to spend the day with her instead.
