Wesley Stannard reflects on how Christmas has started to feel less joyful and special and how he and his wife have drifted apart after the death of their son. As he is walking home, he sees two children with a letter for Christmas. The letter gets blown away by the wind, and Wesley finds it. He decides to keep it and reads it, learning that the children are staying with a struggling woman after their mother left them and that they want parents. Wesley plans a surprise for them while his wife is away, not wanting to bother her. The children enjoy the celebration, but when Wesley's wife comes home, she is sad to have been left out. She and Wesley grow closer and adopt the children.
